November 16 update: Due to regional scheduling conflicts, the originally-scheduled December 14 luncheon has been changed to the reception shown above. We regret any inconvenience this change may cause, and we hope you will be able to attend this event to honor the individuals who have contributed to the success of the Northwest Power Act.
Background
This past December marked the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Northwest Power Act of 1980, one of the most important Federal statutes affecting the development of public policy for the Columbia River Basin.
To commemorate this milestone, the Council and the Bonneville Power Administration are sponsoring a year-long celebration to honor the contributions of individuals from around the region who have been instrumental in pursuing the goals and objectives that congress envisioned when it developed the Act.
These goals and objectives included:
- assuring an adequate, efficient, economic and reliable power supply;
- protecting fish and wildlife; and
- encouraging broad public participation.
Throughout the year, representatives from the Tribes, utilities, environmental organizations and fish and wildlife community will be recognized for their work and leadership in those areas.
Join us in observing this landmark anniversary by paying tribute to the many people who have contributed to the success of the Northwest Power Act.
Sincerely,
Tom Karier, Chairman
Northwest Power and Conservation Council
Stephen J. Wright, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer
Bonneville Power Administration
