Wind ramps meetings

The Bonneville Power Administration will be conducting a series of meeting to discuss the impacts of wind ramps on the operation of the BPA control area (Balancing Authority). The first meeting will be June 6, 2007 at the BPA Hearings Room as part of the Customer Forum.

There will be a follow-up meeting at the Rates Hearing room on June 18, 2007, as many possible attendees may be at another conference on June 6.

Wind Ramp events were described in the Northwest Wind Integration Plan. BPA needs to address this issue as we expect to have up to 3000 MW in the system by 2009. The purpose of these meetings and the subsequent meetings will be to quantify the expected impact and compare solutions. Other areas to be addressed include the need for data from wind farms to improve the AGC response to changes in wind energy output.
