Success stories — Clearwater Focus Program

The Clearwater Focus Program coordinates protection, enhancement and restoration of fish habitat and conservation measures in the Clearwater River subbasin. As part of the project, Potlatch Corporation, the Idaho Department of Lands and private grazing permittees are coordinating with the Forest Service and the Nez Perce Tribe to construct fences and install cattle guards and off-stream watering troughs to protect critical riparian habitat. Road obliteration was completed in the Squaw, Papoose and Lolo Creek watersheds to reduce sediment delivery to streams. Fish species affected are: steelhead trout, spring and fall chinook salmon, westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout.
