Columbia River Indian People of the Salmon
Comment 1: "The Mid-Columbia River indian people of the Yakamas would
like to request our 50% share of the harvestable salmon for this spring season
as per 88 court order of the Columbia River Fish Management Plan. We would like
to be placed on your mailing list and be able to make oral presentations.
Thanks, Columbia River Indian People of the Salmon."
Comment 2: "I would recommend you speak with Chief Jonny Jackson of the
Cascade Tribes. He may be reached at 509-493-2608. He can give your group some
valuable information as to the salmon on the Columbia River. We would appreciate
your assistance for an open discussion as to our fisheries and/or treaty rights
on the Columbia River. Thanks, Simon Sampson, 509-865-5104."

"I believe that further study on healthy fish habitat
should be implemented on an emergency basis. Fish runs in inland screams and all
the environmental extensions resulting therefrom are more valuable both
monetarily and culturally than dams and hydroelectricity. Our ecosystem's health
hundreds of years from now is more valuable that silted in dams and vanished
species. James F. Williams 3050 Beech AV Billings, MT 59102."

"Since you can't act directly, at least recommend the following:
- Barging does not work so let the fish spill.
- Stop giving precedence to BPA's needs.
- Increase river flows per your obligations under the Clean
Water Act and the ESA.
- Stop flooding the system with hatchery fish. It dilutes the
gene pool of the natives and introduces diseases.
- Be honest when reporting your adult counts. Let the public
know hatchery vs wild returns.
- Educate the public on SAR's for NATIVES and what SAR is needed
for natives to survive.
- Obey the laws under which the NWPPC was established.
- Give equal say to fish and stop protecting big ag & BPA
over fish survival.
You are not doing your jobs as defined under the NW Power Act.
Please start. Thank you, Stephen M Pauley MD, Box 3759, Ketchum, ID." |
