(The public comment period for this report is closed.)

The Council invites public comment on a science report on fish passage strategies.

At the Council?s request, Dr. Al Giorgi of BioAnalysts, Inc., prepared a report summarizing the current body of information on the use of barge transportation, water spills at dams and flow augmentation to aid juvenile salmon and steelhead survival in the mainstem Columbia and Snake rivers. The report, which distills the key underlying assumptions guiding implementation of these fish passage strategies, will aid the Council's upcoming mainstem rulemaking, in which the Council will amend its Columbia River Basin Fish and Wildlife Program with recommendations regarding dam and river operations in the mainstem Snake and Columbia rivers.

Comments received by March 8, 2002 will provide immediate feedback for the Council's consideration.  However, comments received beyond this date will still be accepted and reviewed as the Council proceeds in its mainstem rulemaking.
