Energy conservation
- Since 1980, the region has reduced electricity demand by about 3,100
average megawatts through energy conservation measures.
- During the last 25 years, conservation met about half of the increase in the region's electricity demand.
- The average cost of conservation is less than half the cost of new
generating resources.
- New cost-effective conservation amounting to 2,500 average megawatts is
achievable during the next 20 years — enough to meet
about 45 percent of forecasted demand growth over this period.
