Adequacy/GENESYS Technical Conference

August 4 - 6, 2021

9:00am - 3:30pm Pacific/10:00am - 4:30pm Mountain Daily

Breaks will be around 10:30am, 12pm, and 2pm during the day.

REVISIT THE CONFERENCE:

Finding recordings of each day and all materials here. Agenda and other info is below.
Included is a ppt that has updated feedback about each project, etc...

Each day will have a separate webinar registration see links below:

All Advisory Committee meetings are recorded. Recordings are available on request.

Agenda for the three days will include:

  • Walk through hydro plant generation, spill and other operations on a plant-by-plant basis

  • Compare redeveloped GENESYS results against HydSim results and historical data where available

  • Time to answer questions about the following topics and more:

    • Thermal unit commitment

    • Renewable curtailment

    • Market availability

    • Reserves provision and forecast error

Meeting Materials:

Several years ago the Council initiated a process to enhance its adequacy model, GENESYS. One of the objectives for this workshop is to compare simulated hydro operations from the redeveloped GENESYS to those from the original GENESYS and to observed historical operations. Since the original GENESYS only simulates individual hydro plant operations on a monthly basis, hourly simulated operations from the new GENESYS and observed hourly operations have been aggregated for direct comparison. Those data are summarized in three spreadsheets* (identified below), which can be found at https://nwcouncil.box.com/s/bdraqkqoazaq2enos9phpl2jagfx5csn:

  • Classic GENESYS vs Historical Hydro Operations
  • New GENESYS vs Historical Hydro Operations
  • New GENESYS vs Classic GENESYS Hydro Operations

*note - these files require a more current version of Excel to show correctly

Each spreadsheet allows the user to select a hydro plant (drop down box) and a climate change scenario (dropdown box) for comparison. Four charts are provided, which are automatically updated with the selection of the plant; 1) period average outflow, 2) period average generation, 3) period average spill and 4) end-of-period elevation.

Presentation - including slides that will be updated about each project during the meeting
- slides comparing the two models, slides about the different projects in the model, etc...
