The Northwest Power Act requires the Council to develop a plan to ensure an adequate, efficient, economical, and reliable power supply for the region. Working with regional partners and the public, the Council evaluates energy resources and their costs, electricity demand, and new technologies to determine a resource strategy for the region.
The Seventh plan was released in 2016 and is the Council's current plan.
The Council publishes a new plan for the region about every five years.
The Eighth Power Plan is scheduled to be released in final form in early 2021 (timeline subject to change). In September 2018 staff presented the draft timeline for data development, modeling, and writing the plan.
