Report: Dams, altered habitat, the influence of some hatcheries -- all are affecting upper Columbia spring Chinook, which will not be recovered by supplementation alone.
An old irrigation diversion in the Lostine River is replaced with a modern design, opening access to habitat for spring Chinook salmon, summer steelhead, bull trout and other species.
In a word, the outlook for Columbia River salmon in 2016 is good. Not great as in some recent years, but good as in average or better for most species. Again this year, Chinook salmon will make up the bulk of the run.
